This was the first post as I was working through the records. The second post I did on this, I was able to find all the children.
In the RootsIreland.ie website, I found baptism records for great (x3) aunts and an uncle.
They are the children of Richard and Mary O'Dowd. They were born in County Monaghan which is where family records said they were living before coming to Canada. They are listed as Church of Ireland which is also consistent with the family religion.
Family notes state a Richard Dowd married Mary Donaheu in Monaghan. Four children were born to them in Ireland. Two were born in Canada. The location should have been County Monaghan.
I found the following records on this website.
Note the spelling of Mary's (the mother's) surname. Also the Parish name(s) are given.
Both of these items will be useful for finding more records.
Note the date of the baptism.
I was given the information that Jane Dowd was born in 1827 Monaghan.
Note the date of the baptism.
Parish is consistent.
There was no Thomas Dowd listed in the family information I was given. I was told that Richard (the father) had a younger brother named Thomas. Mary's name is spelled differently but it is a variant of the previously listed surname. It is the same parish and the same church in the same location. I will look for a death record for Thomas because the information I have has no Thomas coming to Canada with the family.
I did not find Richard (born 31 Mar 1832). Was he baptized Thomas? This baptism is later than what I was given, so I believe Thomas is another child.
Two parishes listed in some of the records probably due to a change in boundaries.
I was told that Robert James and Margaret, children of Richard and Mary, were born in Canada. The date I was given for Margaret's birth was 1829 Monaghan which contradictions information stating she was born in Canada. I did not find a baptism record for Robert or Margaret.
